21 मार्च, 2006 को जैक डॉर्सी ने एक संदेश लिखा था। संदेश था-जस्ट सेटिंग अप माई ट्विटर। उस वक्त जैक डॉर्सी को इस बात का कतई अंदाज नहीं होगा कि 140 अक्षरों के संदेश यानी ट्वीट भविष्य में सोशल मीडिया की दुनिया में एक नई क्रांति का सूत्रपात करेगा। ट्विटर साइट अब छह साल की हो गई है। दुनिया में 20 करोड़ से ज्यादा लोग ट्विटर का इस्तेमाल कर रहे हैं। माइक्रोब्लॉगिंग साइट के रूप में लोकप्रिय ट्विटर आज फेसबुक के बाद सबसे ज्यादा चर्चित सोशल नेटवर्किग साइट है। बराक ओबामा, दलाई लामा, अमिताभ बच्चन और सचिन तेंदुलकर जैसी दुनिया की सैकड़ों नामचीन हस्तियां इस साइट का इस्तेमाल कर रही हैं। ट्विटर ने लोगों को जोड़ने का काम किया और मिस्त्र जैसी क्रांति के दौरान संदेश प्रसारित करने का काम किया, लेकिन गत दो साल में ट्विटर इस्तेमाल के अलग-अलग आयाम सामने आए हैं। आज बीमार सेलेब्रिटी अपने हेल्थ बुलेटिन को ट्विटर पर प्रसारित कर रहे हैं। हाल में अमिताभ बच्चन और युवराज सिंह को ऐसा करते देखा गया। इसी तरह उपभोक्ता सीधे कंपनियों तक अपनी बात पहुंचाने के लिए ट्विटर का इस्तेमाल कर रहे हैं। सेलेब्रिटी ट्विटर जंग लड़ रहे हैं और मीडिया तक अपनी बात पहुंचाने के लिए इस साइट का जमकर इस्तेमाल कर रहे हैं। नि:संदेह ट्विटर की उपयोगिता को खारिज नहीं किया जा सकता लेकिन छह साल पूरे होने के मौके पर यह सवाल पूछा जाना चाहिए कि क्या इस साइट का भारत में सही इस्तेमाल हो रहा है? भारत में ट्विटर के सवा करोड़ के आसपास उपयोक्ता हैं, लेकिन आम लोग इससे अभी भी दूर हैं। एक अनुमान के मुताबिक भारत के कुल ट्विटर उपयोक्ताओं में से एक तिहाई ही सक्रिय हैं। भारत में ट्विटर के खाताधारकों के औसत फॉलोवर्स की संख्या बीस से ज्यादा नहीं है। इसका मतलब यह है कि उनके लिखे को बीस से ज्यादा लोग नहीं पढ़ते। इनमें भी कई सक्रिय नहीं होते। दूसरी तरफ कई सेलेब्रिटी के ट्विटर एकाउंट के फॉलोवर्स की संख्या लाखों में है। अमिताभ बच्चन को लें तो ट्विटर पर उनके चाहने वालों की संख्या 23 लाख से ज्यादा है। इसी तरह सचिन तेंदुलकर के ट्विटर पर फॉलोवर्स 21 लाख से ज्यादा हैं, लेकिन ट्विटर सेलेब्रिटी को छोड़ दें तो अधिकांश ट्विटर उपयोक्ता इस साइट का इस्तेमाल कुछ कहने के बजाय सुनने के लिए कर रहे हैं। दरअसल भारत में शुरुआती दौर से ट्विटर उच्चवर्ग के मीडिया के रूप में कुछ ऐसा प्रचारित हुआ कि आम इंटरनेट उपयोक्ताओं ने इससे कुछ दूरी रखी। आंकड़ों के आइने में तो फेसबुक साढ़े चार करोड़ की तुलना में ट्विटर बहुत पीछे है। फिर ट्विटर कुछ इस तरह अंग्रेजीदां हुआ है कि हिन्दी व अन्य क्षेत्रीय भाषाओं के ट्वीट लगभग न के बराबर हैं। ट्विटर को भी इस बात का अहसास है कि बिना हिंदी भाषियों के बीच पैठ बनाए बिना भारत में उसे लोकप्रियता नहीं दिलाई जा सकती। इसीलिए ट्विटर ने गत 14 सितंबर से हिंदी संस्करण लांच किया। यानी अब ट्विटर उपयोक्ताओं के लिए हिंदी में भी इंटरफेस उपलब्ध है। सरल शब्दों में हिंदी इंटरफेस का अर्थ यह कि ट्विटर पर खाता खोलने से लेकर उसके प्रयोग से जुड़ी तमाम जानकारियां अब ट्विटर पर देवनागरी लिपि में लिखी दिखाई देंगी। वैसे यह कहना गलत नहीं है कि ट्विटर का प्रचार अभी तक इंटरनेट के जिस वर्ग के बीच सबसे अधिक है उसे अंग्रेजी पढ़ने-लिखने में कतई दिक्कत नहीं है। ट्वीट लिखना अपने आप में एक कला है और इस कला को सहज बनाने के लिए गढ़ा गया नया वाक्य विन्यास फिलहाल अंग्रेजी में ज्यादा है। अमिताभ बच्चन, शाहरुख खान, सचिन तेंदुलकर, प्रियंका चोपड़ा, युवराज सिंह, सुषमा स्वराज और मनोज बाजपेयी जैसे लोगों की हिंदी भी अच्छी है, लेकिन इनके ट्वीट हिंदी में ज्यादा नहीं दिखते। देवनागरी में तो इक्का-दुक्का ही हैं। बहरहाल, 140 अक्षरों की ताकत का इस्तेमाल सही तरीके से हो, इस बारे में अब सोचा जाना चाहिए।
