Basic Manual of VirtualDub-MPEG2 Super (decoder MOD), or like going from MOD to AVI or VOB

This article is an extension of another article titled How to pass MOD (or VOB) files to AVI in video cameras JVC and others like it and speaks of "VirtualDub-MPEG2" NO TALKING THE ORIGINAL software VirtualDub.

The MOD or VOB files coming from digital video cameras and use the MPEG2 codec to compress images. The name of mod or VOB depends on the camera model and brand. When speaking of the MOD files in this article also applies to VOB files and vice versa. The MOI files for practical purposes are useless, internally have the same information as the head of the MOD, as the date on which the video was made, formatting and stuff.

The "Virtual-Dub-MPG2" program is a variant of "VirtualDub" program and is used to pass VOB or MOD files to AVI format. Here are the steps to follow:

1. DOWNLOAD THE VirtuaDub-MPEG2

When you click on the link below, if you get to choose between "Open with ..." and "Save File" choose "SAVE FILE". If you wonder where it will record, tell the Desktop.

2. Unzip the file ZIP

Once you have downloaded the ZIP file (on the desktop), put the mouse pointer over the file, please click the right mouse button in the floating menu and choose "Open with ..." -> "Compressed Folders (zipped) "[see photo below].

If this option called "compressed folders (zipped)" NO appears, utilizad the program (free) 7Zip:

• http://www.7-zip.org/download.html (if you have no idea that there 7Z file download and use Windows, choose the ".exe", 32 bits and above THAN BETA file).

3. RUN THE PROGRAM

4- INITIAL SAFETY MESSAGE

5- SET "VIDEO" VirtualDub-MPEG2

With the program open the file you want to convert MOD to AVI (files as "" MOV001.VOB "", "MOV002.VOB", etc) for this must go to the "File" option (Archive) must be opened and choose the "Open video file" (open video file) option.
Now let's configure the program so that the film is recorded in XviD format (for normal and dark movies) or DivX (for normal or very clear movies). These two formats are the most "famous" video player available, but if in doubt choose XviD, which is the most compatible.

Hands off DEFAULT CONFIGURATION (the "Configure" button), and what you do when you be a program experts.

If the XviD does not appear, look for the codec called "DivX" or similar.

If it still appears neither, it is because you have to install them,. In this case get off the " K-Lite Mega codec pack "( www.codecguide.com/download_mega.htm ) version called "MEGA".

K-Lite is considered the best collection of codecs. For who do not know, the codecs (to oversimplify) are "auxiliary programitas" that allow your viewer videos or music, "understand" formats for those who have not been scheduled. For example the "Xvid codec" allows your operating system "understand" and display Xvid movies with any "player" like BSPlayer, Windows Media, etc.). The word "codec" comes from "Encode Decode".

d) .- Finally, add a filter to prevent an ugly effect occurs with digital cameras, "interlacing" appears.

Go to the "Video" option -> filters -> Add -> Select the "deinterlace" -> ok -> ok

Video cameras recorded the even lines of the image and then the odd lines, so in the videos a "stripes" appear. In the following two images look you in the first photo. 6- SET "SOUND" VirtualDub

Now we have to configure the audio codec, so that our film has audio in MP3 (the most compatible with all electronics) format:

• Option "Audio" -> "Full processing mode"
• > "Compression" - again, "Audio" option
• Choose "Lame MP3" and choose "48000Hz, 192 Kbps, CBR, stereo, 24 KB / s" option. If you do not stop, take a smaller value as 160 Kbps or 128 Kbps (less than 128 better than not) but overall it CBR (much more compatible than ABR).

Do not put more than 192 Kbps because only your dogs will appreciate the courtesy and also the final video will take much more. There is no difference between "48000Hz" and "44000Hz" (to a human), so if you choose to 44000Hz you will come out a little smaller output file.

If you are not the codec "Lame MP3", you have to choose another alternative as the codec "MPEG Layer-3", with the highest options that you can (eg 56Kb / s, 24,000 Hz). If not find it, get off the "k-lite mega codec pack" mentioned in point 5.

7- A RECORD FILE MOD AVI

This is the final step, go to the "File" (File) and "Save as AVI" option (saved as AVI).

And everything is done. After a while, you will have the brand new video AVI, compatible with XviD and MP3 codecs.
