Tata Group is mulling pumping $2 billion into super app venture

Indian salt-to-software conglomerate Tata Group is considering injecting another $2 billion into its super app venture to bolster its digital business, Bloomberg News reported on Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The funds would help the group's online platform Tata Neu strengthen its digital offerings, fix technical glitches, and meet any new spending needs, the report said.

The injection would take place over two years if the deal goes through, it added.

Tata Group has also asked Tata Digital to look for ways to boost the valuation of the super app, according to the report.

A Tata Group spokesperson and Tata Digital declined to comment on the report.

Tata launched the e-commerce super app in April last year, offering everything from apparel to air tickets in a renewed push for a slice of a fast-growing market dominated by Amazon.com and Walmart's Flipkart.

The XBB 1.16 variant was first identified in January when two samples tested positive for it. In February, 140 samples were found, and as of March, 207 additional samples have been detected.

As many as 349 samples of the COVID-19 variant XBB.1.16, believed to be responsible for the recent surge, have been detected in nine states and UTs so far, according to data from INSACOG.

Maharashtra has reported the highest number of cases with 105, followed by Telangana with 93, Karnataka with 61, and Gujarat with 54.

The XBB 1.16 variant was first identified in January when two samples tested positive for it. In February, 140 samples were found, and as of March, 207 additional samples have been detected.

However, former AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria pointed out on Wednesday that the actual number is likely to be higher than what has been reported.

"Now even if they have flu-like symptoms, most people don't get themselves tested. Some use the rapid antigen test, and even if they are positive they do not report it. So the number we are actually reporting may be less than the actual number in the community."

Last week, Vipin M Vashishtha, former convenor of Indian Academy of Pediatrics and consultant pediatrician at the Mangla Hospital and Research Centre, Bijnor, also cautioned, India saw a ‘281% increase in COVID cases’ in just 14 days.

Should you be worried?

Guleria cited, “... As long as they don't lead to severe illness, hospitalisation and deaths, it is alright because it helps in giving some degree of immunity to the population if they have mild illness"

But, Vashishtha countered that thought saying, If XBB.1.16 aka #Arcturus could succeed to wade through the 'sturdy' population immunity of Indians that successfully resisted the onslaught of variants like BA.2.75, BA.5, BQs, XBB.1.5, then whole world must be seriously worried!!

He stressed the need to enhance genome sequencing and adhereing to Covid-appropriate behaviour, an official statement said.

It is to note here, the PNP was launched in 1998, with only 400 immigrants arriving in Canada through this program the following year.

Why Canada is focusing on PNPs? 

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) in Canada is intended to address the unique labour shortages of each province and territory. It allows them to select and nominate skilled immigrants who possess the required qualifications, work experience, and education to meet their regional needs. As a result, the program enables provinces and territories to spread the benefits of immigration, including social, economic, and cultural benefits, throughout the country. 

By increasing the number of PNP immigrants, Canada aims to achieve this goal while providing selected candidates with permanent residency opportunities.

Currently, as many as 11 of Canada’s provinces and territories, excluding Quebec and Nunavut, operate a PNP. Meanwhile, Quebec operates its own economic class immigration programs through a separate agreement with the federal government.

Currently, PNPs have surpassed the federal Express Entry system as the primary way for economic class candidates to obtain Canadian permanent residence. 

In July 2022, Canadian federal, provincial, and territorial immigration ministers agreed to develop a multi-year immigration plan specific to the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). 

The aim of this plan is to enable the two levels of government to better plan and attract skilled immigrants to each province/territory in Canada. 

How to apply for the PNP?

There are two types of nominations: base and enhanced. The key difference is that enhanced nominations are processed more quickly than base nominations. While base nominations take an average of 20 months to process, enhanced nominations are processed in 11 months. 

Enhanced nominations are a fast-track option for skilled workers who are identified as having the potential to integrate quickly into the local labor market and contribute to the regional economy.

मुकेश अंबानी यांच्या 'अँटिलिया' या बंगल्यासमोर सापडलेली स्फोटकांनी भरलेली गाडी आणि त्या गाडीचे मालक मनसुख हिरानी यांची झालेली गूढ हत्या ही वरवर दिसते त्यापेक्षाही गंभीर घटना आहे. मुंबईत अनेक गुन्हे घडतात त्यातलाच एक गुन्हा म्हणून याकडे बघता येणार नाही. कारण हा किरकोळ गुन्हा नसून एका अत्यंत धोकादायक अशा व्यापक कारस्थानाचा भाग आहे याची खात्री पटविणाऱ्या अनेक घटनांची साखळी गेल्या काही महिन्यात उलगडत गेली आहे.

मोदींवर टीका करण्यासाठी कुठलाच ठोस मुद्दा मिळत नाही या वैफल्यग्रस्त मनस्थितीतून राहुल गांधी अनेक खोटे आरोप वेळोवेळी रेटून करत असतात. 'सूटबूट की सरकार', 'अडानी-अंबानींचं सरकार' यासारखी वायफळ बडबड या श्रेणीतच मोडत असावी असं आधी वाटत होतं. पण गेल्या काही महिन्यात ज्या घडामोडी घडत आहेत व ज्या धोकादायक रितीने योजनाबद्ध पावलं उचलली जात आहेत, त्यावरून वरवर बाष्कळ वाटणार्‍या या टीकेमागे एक अत्यंत घातक कारस्थान शिजविणारी शक्तिशाली यंत्रणा काम करते आहे असं जाणवू लागलं आहे.

जून 2020 मध्ये भारत सरकारने नव्या कृषी कायद्यांची घोषणा केली . तेंव्हा कोणीही विरोधी मत नोंदविले नाही. महाराष्ट्र, दिल्ली, पंजाब व इतर राज्यांनी या कायद्यांची अंमलबजावणी सुरूही केली. अगदी, राजेश टिकैत यांनीही " शेतकऱ्यांची अनेक वर्षांची मागणी पूर्ण झाली " या शब्दात या कायद्यांचं स्वागत केलं.

त्यानंतर जुलै महिन्यात एक विशेष घटना घडली...

लाॅकडाऊनच्या कालखंडात सगळे करोनाच्या नावाने खडे फोडत बसलेले असताना मुकेश अंबानींनी लक्ष केंद्रित केलं होतं 'जिओ'ला पूर्णतः कर्जमुक्त करण्याकडे. जागतिक दर्जाची डिजिटल कंपनी उभी करायची म्हणजे प्रचंड गुंतवणूक आलीच. गेल्या चार वर्षात यासाठी घेतलेलं कर्ज फेडून नव्या गुंतवणुकीसाठी पैसे उभे करण्याच्या हेतूने त्यांनी जिओचं मर्यादित भागभांडवल या क्षेत्रातील दादा कंपन्यांना विकायचं ठरवलं. जिओची आजवरची कामगिरी आणि विश्वासार्हता यामुळे अवघ्या तीन महिन्यात गूगल, फेसबुक, इंटेल, क्वालकाॅम यासारख्या कंपन्यांनी जिओमध्ये तब्बल 1.52 लाख कोटी रुपयांची गुंतवणूक केली. 

या आर्थिक शक्तीच्या पाठिंब्यावर यापुढील वाटचालीचं जे चित्र जिओच्या 15 जुलै 2020 रोजी झालेल्या वार्षिक सर्वसाधारण सभेत मांडलं गेलं त्याचा आवाका खरोखर थक्क करणारा होता.

या सभेत जाहीर करण्यात आलं की जिओनी स्वतः विकसित केलेलं 5G तंत्रज्ञान पुढील वर्षीपर्यंत ग्राहकांसाठी उपलब्ध होईल. 

म्हणजेच,  सॅमसंग, हुवेई यासारख्या कंपन्यांच्या बरोबरीने स्वतःचं 5G तंत्रज्ञान असलेली जिओ ही पहिली भारतीय कंपनी असेल.

याचा अर्थ असा की, जगभरातील मोबाईल सर्व्हिस प्रोव्हायडर्सना हे तंत्रज्ञान भारतातून निर्यात केलं जाईल. भारतातील ग्राहकांना स्वदेशी 5G तंत्रज्ञान उपलब्ध होईल व चीनवर अवलंबून रहावं लागणार नाही.

या सभेत असंही जाहीर करण्यात आलं की गुगलच्या अँड्राॅइड वर आधारित जिओ स्मार्ट फोन्स अत्यंत स्वस्त दरात ग्राहकांना उपलब्ध करून दिले जातील. यामुळे अत्याधुनिक 5G सेवा कोट्यावधी भारतीयांपर्यंत पोचेल व तिच्याबरोबर डिजिटल इंडियाचे लाभही.

याबरोबरच, मोबाईल फोन्ससाठी चीनवर अवलंबून राहण्याची गरज जवळपास संपेल. 

5G तंत्रज्ञान व स्मार्टफोन्सची भारतीय आणि जागतिक बाजारपेठ इतकी प्रचंड आहे, की त्यात अंबानींची जिओ आपल्या एकाधिकारशाहीला आव्हान देणार हे लक्षात आल्यावर चवताळलेल्या चीनने जगभरातील व भारतातील आपल्या इकोसिस्टिमला हाताशी धरून आपले डाव खेळायला सुरुवात केली. 

आजवर ज्या कृषी कायद्यांमध्ये काहीही वावगं वाटलं नव्हतं त्यांच्याविरुद्ध हळूहळू रान पेटवायला सुरुवात झाली. शेतकऱ्यांच्या आडून, या आंदोलनाची आखणी, दर्शन पाल, योगेंद्र यादव यांच्यासारखी डावी मंडळीच करत होती हे लक्षात घ्यायला हवं.

"या कायद्यांमधील कुठल्या तरतुदींना तुमचा आक्षेप आहे हे सांगा, कलमनिहाय चर्चा करा," अशा विनवण्या सरकार पुन्हापुन्हा करत असूनही, कुठलीही तथ्याधारित चर्चा न करता, कोणताही तोडगा निघू न देता, आंदोलन कसं सुरूच राहील व आणखी भडकेल असे उघड प्रयत्न केले गेले.

या कृषी कायद्यांमुळे भारताचे संपूर्ण कृषी क्षेत्र अंबानींच्या घशात जाईल, तुमच्या जमिनी ते बळकावतील अशी तद्दन खोटी भीती घालून भावनाप्रधान शेतकऱ्यांना भडकविण्यात आलं. 

'गरीब बिचारा बळीराजा' या भावनेच्या आहारी गेलेल्या अनेक भाबड्या लोकांनाही ते खरं वाटू लागलं.

मग पंजाबमध्ये अचानक 'रिलायन्स जिओ' च्या टाॅवर्सवर हल्ले होऊ लागले. शेकडो टाॅवर्सचं नुकसान करण्यात आलं. अंबानींनी शेतमालाची खरेदी- विक्री करू नये अशी मागणी असल्यास 'रिलायन्स फ्रेश' या त्यांच्या डिपार्टमेंटल स्टोर्सच्या साखळीसमोर निदर्शनं झाली असती तर ते समजू शकलं असतं. 'जिओ' चा कृषी कायद्यांशी काय संबंध ? 5G मधील आपल्या मक्तेदारीला शह देण्याची हिंमत केल्या बद्दल रिलायन्सला धडा शिकविण्याचा हा प्रयत्न होता !

पंजाबसारख्या सीमावर्ती प्रांतात कम्युनिकेशनचं नेटवर्क बंद पडणं किती धोकादायक आहे हे काँग्रेसमध्ये असूनही राष्ट्रवादी असलेल्या कॅ. अमरिंदरसिंग यांनी ओळखलं आणि त्याविरूद्ध आवाज उठवला. चिनी राजदूताला चोरून भेटणाऱ्या राहुल गांधींनी मात्र अडानी- अंबानी ही बकवास सुरूच ठेवली.

ग्रेटा थनबर्गकडून चुकीने उघड झालेल्या टूलकिटमध्येही अंबानींच्या विविध आस्थापनांविरूद्ध निदर्शनं व कारवाया करण्याची सूचना देण्यात आली होती.  जगभरातल्या एनजीओ आणि ॲक्टिव्हिस्टस् चा भारतातील एकाच खासगी कंपनीवर इतका राग असण्याचं कारण काय? काॅर्पोरेट कंपन्यांच्या स्पर्धेत त्यांनी पडायचं कारणच काय ? उघड आहे, की हा सगळा गोतावळा कम्युनिस्टांच्या दावणीला बांधलेला आहे व त्यांच्या म्हणजेच चीनच्या इशाऱ्यावर शिकारी कुत्र्यांसारखा भारताच्या आत्मनिर्भरतेचा घास घेण्यासाठी उतावीळ झाला आहे.

या सगळ्या पार्श्वभूमीवर अँटिला प्रकरणाकडे पाहिलं असता हे साधंसुधं प्रकरण नाही हे लक्षात येतं.

उद्योगपतींच्या नावाने खडे फोडण्यात धन्यता मानणारा एक  मोठा वर्ग आपल्याकडे आहे. ते या सुरात सूर मिसळून हा आवाज मोठा करण्याला हातभार लावत आहेत. त्यांनी लक्षात घ्या  हवं की अंबानी, अडाणी, टाटा, बिर्ला यासारखे भारतीय उद्योगसमूह भारतात संपत्तीची निर्मिती करतात,  हजारो-लाखो रोजगार निर्माण करतात व देशाच्या प्रगतीला हातभार लावतात. त्यांच्याशी स्पर्धा करणाऱ्या चिनी उद्योगांमागे गळेकापू व विधिनिषेधशून्य चिनी सरकार उभं आहे. लोकशाहीची कसलीही बंधनं नसल्यामुळे पडद्यामागे कारस्थानं करून ते कुठल्याही थराला जाऊ शकतात. त्यात त्यांच्या साथीला आहे, जगभरातील विद्यापीठं, मीडिया व तथाकथित बुद्धिवंतांवर पोलादी पकड असलेली डावी इकोसिस्टिम.

चीनच्या स्वार्थासाठी भारतात अराजकाचं थैमान घालण्याच्या त्यांच्या प्रयत्नांना, उद्योगपतींना शिव्या घालण्याच्या नादात आपण हातभार तर लावत नाही ना, याचा प्रत्येकाने विचार करायला हवा.

'हिंसा'  हे कम्युनिस्ट सरकारं, जगातील व भारतातील कम्युनिस्ट पक्ष व त्यांचे सहप्रवासी यांचं जाहीर धोरण आहे. त्यामुळे, चीनच्या राक्षसी महत्वाकांक्षांच्या आड येणाऱ्या प्रत्येकाला संपविण्याचा  प्रयत्न ते करणार हे उघड आहे. आज त्या ठिकाणी अंबानी आहेत, उद्या दुसरं कोणीतरी असेल. भावनात्मक चळवळी, भारतातील तरुणांना भरकटवणारं फसवं तत्वज्ञान, सीमेवरील चकमकी व दबावतंत्र, जागतिक पातळीवरचा प्रचार आणि शेवटी व्यक्तिगत व संस्थात्मक हिंसा अशा सर्वंकष युद्धासाठी भारताला यापुढे तयार रहावं लागेल. हे युद्ध भारत नक्कीच जिंकेल. त्यासाठी प्रत्येकाचा सजग सहभाग मात्र हवा !
