SWITCHING JOBS? GO FOR A JOBBYMOON
This is the mini vacay that people take to recharge themselves before the new responsibility begins
Heard of honeymoons and babymoons? There’s another hybrid to join the league. And it’s something you have probably done for sure. It’s ‘Jobbymoon’ — when you’re on the cusp of having just left a job and joining a new place. While this may just be an anointed word, it has a crucial task — to expel the vestiges of the last job before embarking on the next one.
Here are five reasons why you need to go on one if you’re at a job crossroad...
1 FOR A REAL BREAK
Unlike ‘bleisure’ that combines business with leisure or a ‘bizcation’, where you are on a business vacation and still in touch with work calls, stress and responsibility, this is the duration where you won’t have the shackles of a past job or any accountability for the future one. It thus allows you to spend your vacation minus any worry.
2 A CHANCE TO REASSESS
The time out lets you mull over your past achievements or mistakes, reassess what needs to be done, and priorities that lie ahead.
3 LET’S YOU TICK OFF THE BUCKET LIST
Well, not entirely, but even in small ways, a jobbymoon presents the downtime where tasks or errands that you always wanted to do can be completed. It may also be just ‘the time’ to go swimming in a cage with sharks or do that skiing on a slope that you’ve been waiting to try.
4 YES, HALF JOBBYMOONS WORK
The break you go on need not be four or five days-long. Even a weekend can work to recharge the batteries.
5 DOING NOTHING IS A RECHARGER, TOO
Most people are not used to having ‘nothingness’ at hand and yet experts say sometimes not engaging with anything can be a great mental detox. So, use the time between jobs to enjoy the peace of having no tasks on mind.
